Mohamed Yusuf Haji is undoubtedly one of the top cream minds in the Kenyan Senate.
The soft-spoken former Minister of Defence has served as Garissa senator since 2013 on a Jubilee ticket.
He doubles up as one of the top confidants of President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP Ruto from the North-Eastern region.
It is evident how the majority of the political kingpins in Garissa county have taken sides in the Ruto-Raila cold war and the referendum stalemate.
However, Senator Haji is yet to make any open statement about the issues. He wants the electorate’s confidence in him to remain firm or rather improve.
That is so because parts of his supporters are allied to different political camps as far as the Ruto-Raila feud and referendum issues are concerned.
He is carefully reading between the lines first before making any huge political utterance.
He has chosen to remain neutral because he wants to diligently deliver his election mandate to the Garissa locals.
He wants to build a political image of his own. Besides, he wants his loyalty to both Uhuru and DP Ruto to remain intact.
Senator Haji has vast experience in administration and management and he is not willing to mix much politics with his senatorial duties.
