ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale has asked Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to reveal the identity of the police officers who have been interdicted following the brutality meted out on a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Etale condemned the incident, terming it inhuman and unacceptable.
He said Kenyans want to know the names of the officers after the IG failed to reveal their identity.
"When a Public Officer is relieved of their duties from service, their name is made public. Can the National Police Service make public names of the interdicted police officers involved in the nasty incident at JKUAT Monday this week," he said.
Mutyambai has ordered the release of all students who had been arrested during the Monday demonstrations.
Amnesty International CEO Irungu Houghton has also condemned the brutal treatment of students during the riots. Irungu wants action taken against the officers caught on camera assaulting a student.
“Violent policing during public demonstration must stop. It is impossible for the Republic to distinguish hooligans both in and out of police uniforms. Officers who break their code of office must be held individually guilty of misconduct, sanctioned and made to compensate victims,” he said.
The assault on the student occurred on Monday as JKUAT students held demonstrations to protest against increasing cases of insecurity in Juja.
