Speaking on Sunday at the Komothai Catholic Church, the speaker called on the county bosses across the 47 counties to be accountable for resources allocated for their counties.

He challenged governors to ensure that every coin that they getting from the national government was well accounted for.

"What are you doing to ensure when that revenue is raised it is also protected and goes to serve the purposes for which every government taxes its people," the National Assembly speaker said

Muturi said that the revenue that the counties were receiving was coming from the Kenya people.

His intervention comes amid an ongoing standoff between the county administrations and the national government over the allocation of revenue with governors calling for even more funds.

316 billion shillings was allocated for the counties in the 2019/2020 financial year, an amount that the county heads contend is too little given their responsibilities.

A case was filed by the governors, seeking an advisory opinion from the Supreme Court on how the counties should share revenue from the national government.

This comes in the wake of failed talks between the national and county governments.
