Politics in Kiambu is taking a new twist that may leave the current Governor Ferdinand Waititu on the receiving end and revive the prominence of former Governor William Kabogo.
Reports of mismanagement of county funds have placed Governor Waititu on the receiving end, with some residents in Kiambu already reminiscing of the positives of Kabogo’s tenure.Currently, Waititu is facing criticism over the supposed deterioration of the health sector in the county. The “Kaba Kabogo” slogan emerged online following reports that the state of the Kiambu Level Five Hospital was dire with patients being forced to share beds.Kabogo has also taken advantage of this misgiving to criticise his successor noting that the current state of the hospital is as a result of poor management of county affairs.“These issues were never reported during my tenure and personally I blame them on poor management,” said Kabogo.Waititu’s move to blame non-residents on the predicament made things worse, further fueling the public anger.
Here are some of the reactions by residents:
Another thing which is making Waititu gain more political enemies than friends is how he is handling the fight against illicit brews in the county.
So many people in the county starting from bars and clubs owners, serial drinkers, have become enemies with the governor, an indication that some of them will dump him for Kabogo should he decide to vie for the governor seat come 2022.
A section of leaders in the county including the county senator and women rep is against the strategies the governor is using to kick illicit brews out of the region.
Other allegations which are making residents say "Heri Kabogo" include misappropriation of funds, especially the millions of shillings spent on fighting alcoholism in the county.
The county boss has also been accused of sidelining county leaders when making important decisions. The move caused a rift between the governor, his deputy James Nyoro and MPs in the county.
It took the intervention of Deputy President William Ruto to reconcile the leaders.
