Fred Korir, 38, from Bomet County is a thriving Kenyan entrepreneur who has made a name for himself running a hotel in Rwanda's capital city, Kigali.
According to an interview done by the County Communication team and posted on their Facebook page, Korir first went to Rwanda as a visitor in 2007 through an invitation by a friend.
He loved the place and later resolved to relocate to Rwanda to first look for a job which he got as an accountant at the horizon construction company.
Korir worked there for 3 years and later started a hotel business called Roasters.
The reason behind entering into the hotel business was because there was a demand for the Kenyan mouth-watering nyama choma and Ugali, Kenyan staple which is not in the Rwandan Menu.Roasters is now a popular feature of Kigali’s Kenyan food.
“Business environment in Rwanda has been enabling for entrepreneurs and that’s why it was easier for me to penetrate,” said Korir the hotel entrepreneur.
“When I settled in Kigali 10 years ago, it was difficult to find well-prepared ugali or maize flour but a company from Tanzania is now manufacturing flour due to rising demand from Kenyans living in Rwanda,” he added.
Korir's business is now flourishing, serving up to 500 customers daily. Korir called upon Kenyans to come out of their comfort zones and invest since there are many opportunities in various fields outside the Country.
