Court Users Committee in Eldoret have launched a court wardrobe meant to donate clothes to suspects of various cases.
According to Eldoret High Court Judge Stephen Githinji the clothes will make the suspects look decent when they are taken to court.
“We realised that some of the suspects stay in prison for too long and are not seen by their relatives thus their clothes get worn out and come to courts in rugged clothes,” he told the press at the High Court premises on Monday after launching the wardrobe.
“In this programme, we take forms to prison where the suspect ticks the clothes they want; that trouser, shirts, shoes, thereafter, produce the forms to the wardrobe officer. Lastly, the suspect is taken to find the clothes that fit him or her,” added Justice Githinji.
He reiterated that they aim to ensure that suspects are decently dressed to make them feel just like other Kenyans.
Githinji, however, called on Kenyans during the festive season to completely avoid crime especially traffic offences which might lead to accidents.
He urged drivers not to drive while drunk noting that this is a major cause of death on Kenyan roads.
