19-year-old tennis player Bianca Andreescu beat Serena Williams Saturday, a legend of the game, to give Canada its first Grand Slam.
Andreescu put up a compelling show, beating Serena 6-3 7-5 in Saturday's compelling final.
For years, the Canadian had been dreaming about upstaging Ms Williams and even went to the extent of writing herself a fake U.S Open cheque.
Her victory saw her take home a staggering 3.7 million pounds, an amount she says she has never held in her entire life.
"I never really thought about being famous. I'm not complaining though," she smiled.
"My goals have been to just win as many Grand Slams as possible, become number one in the world. But the idea of fame never really crossed my mind.
"It's been a crazy ride this year. I can definitely get used to this feeling."And the prize money? "Don't ask me that because I have no clue. I've never held that much money in my life!" she said.
Andreescu said that she was keen on curving her own legacy in tennis, saying Serena Williams has been an inspiration to her.
The Canadian denied her American idol a 24th record-equaling title.
Williams expressed her disappointment at losing to the 19-year-old, confessing that did not play her game.
"I honestly didn't play my best today. I could have played better. That's the only solace that I can take right now, " she said.
