This is after Ruto said Jubilee Party will hold grassroots elections next year to have new officials in office.

Kamanda said the directive should come from President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the party leader, and accused Ruto of equating himself to the President.

“He purports to speak as if he is the President. He has never accepted that he’s a deputy. He thinks he’s an equal partner with Uhuru, which he is not,” Kamanda said.

Speaking during the requiem mass of Adelaide Shikanga, the wife of former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Thursday, the DP asked Jubilee supporters to get ready for countrywide elections next year.

“We are going to have grassroots elections next year to have men and women competent to manage the affairs of our party,” he said during a function held at Malinya grounds in Kakamega County.

Agreeing there were plans for polls in 2019, Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju told off the DP saying the announcement should be made by the National Executive Council (NEC).

"It’s NEC that will come up with a full programme. It will decide whether the elections will start from the grassroots all the way to the national offices. We expect to hold the elections somewhere after March next year," he said.
