The camp will be built in collaboration between the national government and the Kisumu county government.

Matiang’i was accompanied to Muhoroni by among others, governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.

Nyong’o said that the construction of the camp to be known as Rapid Deployment Unit Camp will start with immediate effect.

“Joining Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i at the ground inspection of Museum Rapid Deployment Unit Camp whose construction is slated to begin forthwith,” the governor posted on his Facebook page.

According to the county boss, the camp is meant to deal with ethnic clashes along the Kisumu-Nandi border.

“The sporadic ethnic clashes along Kisumu and Nandi border have for a long time heightened tension in the region. To bring this to a halt the national government in collaboration with the county government of Kisumu saw it needful to put up a security camp along the border of the two neighbouring counties in a bid to beef up security in the region,” the first-term County Chief noted in the post.

Clashes along the Nandi-Kisumu border have caused deaths, injuries and loss of property over the years.

The clashes are allegedly fueled by cattle rustling along the border.
