76 KCSE candidates from South Sudan failed to sit for their exams on Monday due to insecurity issues in Turkana county, county director of education Pius Ong’oma has said.
Ong'oma said the students feared for their security following the killings at Lokichogio Mixed secondary school that left six dead and 18 injured.
“The candidates feared to cross the borders due to tight security. We communicated with them about the exams but they did not show up," Ong’oma said
He however, said the exams started well in the county.
He noted that areas that will not be accessible by vehicles due to heavy rainfall, an helicopter will be used to dispatch exam materials to such areas.
The county has 3,816 candidates sitting for exams this year.
