Speaking on JKL show on Wednesday, Atwoli said Mudavadi stood some chance of prevailing in a future presidential contest.

According to Atwoli, Mudavadi's humble demeanour and inscrutable expression is a plus for the former presidential candidate.

"I can't say yes or no because people like Mudavadi can easily become president. Those people who are not blue or red. You cannot read them. We call them smooth operators," the COTU Secretary General said. (4:40-4:54)

Mudavadi's 2013 presidential bid ended in failure in spite of presenting himself to the public as a safe pair of hands.

In 2017, he opted to throw his weight behind former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's presidential bid, but the team lost to incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He has said in 2022, he will be on the ballot, adding that he will not shelve his candidature in favour of any other candidate.

A bewildering array of factors have made it difficult for him to win the presidency including the apparent disunity in the Luhya nation.
