United States of America First Lady Melania Trump was on Tuesday booed at Baltimore as she gave a speech addressing the opioid crisis.
According to BBC, the event was sponsored by the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Media reports suggest that the hostility was in response to comments made by President Trump a few months ago, about Baltimore being a rat infested city.
The event was held at the University of Maryland and was mainly attended by high and middle school students.
This is the third time in less than 3 months that the First Lady had to grapple with a hostile crowd.
Melania Trump appeared to take the hostility in her stride, appealing to the attendees to be civil.
“Thank you to all of the students who are here. I am so proud of you for the bravery it takes to share that you have been strongly affected by the opioid epidemic in some way," she told the crowd as quoted by Washington Post.
She told those in attendance that they were not just young people but ladies and gentlemen.
In her speech, she promised to play her part on ensuring that the opioid menace that has plagued America is dealt with.
"We live in a democracy and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but the fact is we have a serious crisis in our country and I remain committed to educating children on the dangers and deadly consequences of drug abuse," she said in a statement released later according to the Guardian.
