Kenya's most celebrated HIV/Aids top rese research Dr Sobbie Mulindi succumbed to cancer on Tuesday after years of battling with the disease.

Dr Mulindi is among pioneer journalists and scholars who open campaigned about HIV/Aids when it was almost a taboo to speak about it in Kenya was almost a taboo.

Importantly, he played a key role in drafting of Sessional Paper No 4 on HIV/Aids in 1997, which helped the government in tackling the monster.

Besides having worked in various newsrooms, he also worked as a senior lecturer in the University of Nairobi where he was among those who introduced psychiatric department.

Siaya Senator James Orengo was among those who mourned him as an astute leader, whose contributions to the society cannot go unnoticed.

"I have learned with sorrow and sadness the passing on of Dr Sobbie Mulindi. At Alliance High School we called him Amalinze the Cat. He had passion and energy for the things he pursued including campaigns about HIV/Aids. Rest in eternal peace," he said.

"Sad to learn of the passing on of Dr. Sobbie Mulindi, a man I have known since my days as a journalist in the newsroom and field. We have lost a great man. Rest in Power my friend," added Philip Etale.

In the National Aids Control department, Dr Sobbie Mulindi worked as one of the team which inspired research that saw reduction of preferences.
