One of the lead contestants of inaugural Ms President Reality TV show, Ms Irene Mayaka, on Wednesday arrived in her backyard at Nyamira in style for final campaigns.
Ms President Reality TV show was launched early this year and will culminate in announcement of the inaugural winner on 31st July on KTN Home channel.
The show seeks to promote women leadership in Kenya, a country that has struggled with patriarchy since independence, with only few women succeeding in elective politics.
Canadian government and European Union are the major sponsors of the competition which started from preliminary to elimination level.
Winners of the academy award shall have the two institutions launching mega projects through grants, a move that makes the competition even tougher.
At Nyamira on Wednesday, Ms Mayaka, a nominated MCA on ODM, traversed the county ahead of online voting which kicks off tonight.
"I am delighted to be at home, I am confident that you shall support me until I finish on top. This competition shows that even women can be given space in our society to lead," she said.
For the better part of the day, she visited patients at Nyamira County Referral Hospital and Miruka market. Hundreds of youths accompanied her and fellow MCAs.
"We shall ensure that we mobilise our soldiers online for the sake of her. We believe in her ability and that's why I am calling upon Kenyans to elect her," said Dennis Marube, the ODM Nyamira branch youth chairman.
A final presidential debate shall be held on 24th July on KTN where the fans of the finalists shall have an opportunity to listen to them and their specific ideologies.
Ms Mayaka was reinstated to Nyamira Assembly in April this year after two years of court battle. One Damaris Mouni had irregularly sneaked her name to IEBC at the expense of Mayaka.
On national politics, Ms Mayaka is credited for running a successful Daughters of Raila campaign team, a lobby group which championed for election of opposition leader Raila Odinga in 2017.
Other finalists include; Waruguru Kiai from Nyeri, Betty Adera, Amondi Oketch and Umulkher Mohammed from North Frontier Districts.
