Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula has expressed his discontentment over the raft of changes made by the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).
In a statement on Friday, Wetangula said that President Uhuru Kenyatta needs to overhaul the entire NHIF management team with immediate effect.
“The president must overhaul the NHIF management team and give other qualified Kenyans an opportunity to serve in such positions,” he advised.
He lamented that the Jubilee government has now made the scheme a luxury instead of a basic need for the entire population.
Wetangula said that he is shocked by the fact that members are expected to wait for a period of three months before they can start benefitting from the services that they have paid for unlike in the past where they only waited for two months.
The introduction of a 50 percent penalty for the defaulters as well as introduction of a period of six months for those who want to benefit from maternal services has also angered the Senator.
The scheme has also reduced the number of beneficiaries from ten to five and only one spouse, which has left him in deep shock.
He asked the government to rethink about the financial and health status of Kenyans before introducing any changes in the management of the scheme.
