In a strongly-worded tweet on Wednesday, Mr Talam said the hiring, which was unanimously backed by DP Ruto-backing legislators, has nothing to do with his boss.

He contended that the MPs who threw their weight behind the hiring did so in support of an administrative principle and not for political reasons.

According to Mr Talaam, the claims were being made with the intention of forming a basis for rejecting Dr William Ruto's victory in 2022 should he win, a barb that was directed to veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

"IEBC has nothing to do with William Ruto or any other leader. MPs voted for an administrative principle. Someone is already rejecting an election result!@kipmurkomen @OleItumbi @KIMANIICHUNGWAH, " the tweet read.

MPs voted to have the vacancies that were created after a number of commissioners left filled.

The vacancies were created after Connie Nkatha, Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat resigned as commissioners and their attempts to return to work were thwarted by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati who said that their resignations could not be rescinded.
