Tarus is said to be unable to repay the loan taken from NIC bank, now NCBA after the merger of NIC and CBA.

In a notice, Garam Investment Auctioneers invited potential buyers of the plush home to attend a fire sale to be held next Tuesday.

Tarus served as Emgwen MP from 2003-07. He also served as Australia ambassador from 2009-13. He was an Internal Security assistant minister.

Last year, his wife Jane Rotich managed to block attempts to auction the house, arguing that she jointly owned it with him.

“The plaintiff/applicant claims to be the wife of Stephen Kipkiyeny Tarus who is the 2nd defendant. She claims to have gotten married to the 2nd defendant in 1994 and later on, formalised the marriage through a church wedding on 23-11-2003."

According to her, she had brought up her kids in the house and it was unrealistic to send her away from the house.

“That she purchased the parcel of land known as L. R. NO. 2259/463 (IR NO. 86846) (hereinafter referred to as the suit property) jointly with her husband and constructed thereon their residential house where they currently reside with their children,” she had told the court.
