Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed after being announced the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize winner.
In a tweet on Friday, the African Union Representative commended the Ethiopian PM over his efforts to solve war.
''Congratulations Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for your efforts to resolve border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea. It is an honour to our Continent which has long been held back by wars,'' he said.
Raila also noted that Mr Abiy had proven that the politics of diplomacy and engagement builds the nation.
Mr Abiy Ahmed won the award for his efforts to bring peace in his country and the East African region.
He helped solve the border war between Ethiopia and their neighbouring country Eritrea last year, making the end of their two-decade conflict.
He also set free thousands of opposition activists who had been jailed. He allowed exiled dissidents back to Ethiopia.
Surprisingly, he did all these in barely two years as he was appointed Prime Minister in 2018.
He is now the 100th Nobel Peace Prize winner.
He will be given a price of nine million Swedish crowns (Sh90, 000, 000). He will receive his price in Oslo in December 2019.
