President Uhuru Kenyatta, and ODM leader Raila Odinga must marginalise political groupings in Jubilee for Building Bridges Initiative to succeed, law scholar Prof Makau Mutua has opined.
In a Facebook post, Prof Mutua termed Tangatanga and Kieleweke political groupings "poisonous", adding that the two groups should be shunned for BBI to succeed.
"For BBI to succeed, Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga must completely shun and utterly marginalize the Jubilee factotums in TangaTanga and Kieleweke. Both are poisonous to a nation building project," Mutua said.
He further noted that BBI will suceed if it is a process, and not just a document.
Is BBI a process or a document? If it’s the former, it will succeed. But it will fail if it’s the latter. You can take that to the bank," he added.
The TangaTanga camp is allied to Deputy President William Ruto, while Kieleweke group supports the handshake between President Kenyatta and Odinga.
Over the past few months, the two groups have been engaged in a heated exchange over the BBI process.
However, a section of leaders allied to the TangaTanga group have vowed to support BBI after reading the report, arguing that it does not propose a referendum as had earlier been suggested.
"I support BBI Report because; 1. It’s Presidents own report and largely reflects the views of Jubilee 2. Doesn’t require a referendum, we’ll sort (it) in Parliament 3. Subject to further discussion and review 4. Contrary to earlier threats doesn’t amount to a tsunami 5. Doesn’t overburden mwananchi," Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen said.
