Students from Moi University have joined the country in mourning the death of Jonathan Moi, the son of Kenya’s second president Daniel Moi.
According to Lee Njiru, the family’s press secretary, Jonathan Moi died while receiving treatment for cancer at a hospital in Nakuru.
“I would like to pass my condolences to the family of former president Daniel Torotich Moi. The death of Jonathan Moi is a great loss to the country and especially to those who love Safari rally. May his soul rest in peace,” Diana Wanjiku, a fourth year student at Moi University main campus said.
The students also urged political leaders to come together regardless of their political divide to support the family during this period of mourning.
“I would like to urge all the political leaders to come together and support the family. Former president Moi is a very significant person in the history of Kenya and as such we should show him our support and love,” Edwin Kiprop, a third year student at the Kesses based institution stated.
Jonathan Moi came into the limelight when he vied for the Eldama Ravine parliamentary seat in 2002.
The first born son to former President Moi and his late wife Lena was mostly known for his love of Safari Rally.
