Gatundu South Member of Parliament has explained why he broke ranks with Uhuru Kenyatta in spite of the two being in the same team since 2013 until recently.
In an exclusive interview with Daily Nation, the Gatundu South legislator revealed that a speech that he made in 2018 raising questions about the state of development in the Mount Kenya region may have led him to break ranks with the head of state.
In the speech, he appeared to suggest that the Uhuru administration had not given the region the attention he thought it deserved.
''On December 31, 2018, I made the now-famous – infamous to some – Thika Speech about the development in Mt Kenya region, or lack thereof. As a member of the Budget Committee since 2014, I was aware that Parliament has never rejected any budget proposal from the President and the Treasury, '' Kuria told the Daily Nation.
Kuria went to say that governors from the Mount Kenya told the president that the Gatundu South MP was raising the questions because he had been asked to do so by Ruto, souring his relationship with Uhuru.
''When I persisted in asking these questions, the Mt Kenya governors convinced the President that I was a rabble-rouser inciting the people against him, at the behest of William Ruto, " he added.
