In Mombasa, the weatherman says, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms will be experienced for the approaching three days.

While speaking to the Nation, Meteorology Director of Mombasa Edward Ngure said that the cyclonic activities occurring in the Indian Ocean causes clouds to move to the cyclone.

"Heavy rains will be accompanied by strong winds off shore, which may result in a storm surge in the ocean," said Mr Ngure.

A weather update had earlier indicated that the area will receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms with sunny intervals.

"[The rains are] going to affect areas in the entire coastline from Lamu to Kwale. The situation gets worse as you move south towards Madagascar," Mr Ngure said.

Areas likely to be affected are Shanzu, Kisauni, Nyali, Jomvu, Likoni and Mvita.

The weatherman also cautioned people in flat areas, in poorly drained areas and areas with unfilled mines to expect flash floods.

Some areas along the coast had already experienced the effects of heavy rains.

In Taita Taveta, families who were displaced by the rains have been settled at Voi Primary School awaiting resettlement by the government and well wishers.
