Residents of Migari village in Tharaka Nithi County have built one of them a house, after 16 years of living under a huge rock.
Mr Anderson Muchunku, 57, has been living under the rock since his house collapsed, with the only protection from the sun and rain being a polythene paper.
The residents came in to help after his brother, Lawrence Ntwiga, failed to honour his promise to build him a house, which he has blamed on financial constrains.
Ntwiga said he has not been happy with the life his brother has been living.
"I have not been happy with what my brother has been undergoing but I could not do much apart from pitying him following the tough financial times I am going through," he said.
Acting chief Edward Gitonga lauded the villagers for the gesture, adding that such should be kept up, stressing on the need for locals to unite hands and help before seeking external support.
"I am pleased with what you have done and we should always follow these footsteps even before seeking help from other areas," said the administrator.
Karimba Location Area Manager also welcomed the move, noting that the beneficiary was suffering, especially during rainy seasons.
