Uasin Gishu County government has initiated a process of rescuing street children from Eldoret town Central Business District (CBD).
According to Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago, the street urchins will be taken to country rescue centres where all their needs will be catered for.
"Our aim is to ensure that the street children who are school going after rehabilitation get a chance to go to school and be just like other Kenyans. In the near future we want our streets to be free of street children," said the Uasin Gishu governor.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Friday Mandago said those who are 18 years and above will be enrolled in schools that will teach technical skills that will help them earn a living.
"My government is also working with the County commissioner to process their National Identification cards to be responsible citizens who can seek employment," added governor Mandago.
The county boss further warned parents sending their children to the streets to beg that they will be arrested and charged for child neglect.
Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdirisack Jaldesa speaking to the press on Saturday said the National government has started the process of giving street children in Eldoret town Identification Cards.
He say they want street children to be identified as Kenyans.
"We have started the process of giving street children who are 18 years old and above Identification Cards so that they can be able to be registered as Kenyans and also be in a position to seek for employment just like other Kenyans," said the Uasin Gishu County commissioner.
The county commissioner further said they will also trace the parents of the street children and of it will be found that it's child neglect their parents will be arrested and charged.
