This comes after a scuffle ensued during the governor's arrest, after which he was bundled into a waiting police chopper and flown back to the city.

Okango argued that the arrest might have been necessary, especially for a man who has proven to be quite a handful when summoned to appear before the authorities.

He argued that had the governor been summoned to appear to a court or the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) offices, chances are that he would have mobilised his supporters to disrupt the process.

"They knew summoning him would result in drama. The other time they summoned him at EACC he brought his supporters. He is a man who loves drama (Walijua wakimsummon kutakuwa na vipindi. Unaona mara nyingine aliitwa pale EACC akaja na vijana. Ni mtu anapenda vipindi)," he said during an interview on Radio Jambo on Saturday.

However, he condemned the police for roughing up the governor during his arrest, adding that there is also a need for Kenyans to cooperate during arrests.

"I am not happy with the scuffle that erupted between him and the police. I'm urging the police to be humane when doing their job. Citizens should also cooperate when the police come, they cannot resist arrest (Lakini sikufurahia mgogoro kati yake na polisi. Naomba polisi wawe na utu wanapofanya kazi yao. Wananchi pia they cannot resist arrest, wakija jisalimishe)," he added.

Sonko was arrested in relation to a number of corruption allegations that have been levelled against him and will be arraigned in court on Monday, December 9, 2019.
