Detectives from the office of the DCI on Friday arrested four Kenya Wildlife Officers over robbery in Samburu. The officers reportedly robbed relatives who were coming from a dowry payment event on December 26, 2019.

The officers accosted them before they made away with their valuables. The officer reportedly stole cash of Sh.9500 during the incident. The suspects are attached to the Baawa KWS Station in Samburu County.

“FOUR @kwskenya Officers based at Baawa KWS Station in Samburu were yesterday arrested for violently robbing a group of relatives on December 26, 2019 while coming from a Dowry function. The victims who were returning to their homes from Lodogojek area," DCI said. 

The DCI said that the officer had boarded a land cruiser before they attack the group and robbed. The arrested officers have been identified as James Lamata, & Wardens Brian Kiplangat, Dad Said and Peter Kirui.

“Armed officers on board a KWS Land Cruiser, who robbed them of Ksh. 9,500/- & other personal items. Upon receiving the report & conducting Identification Parade to pick out the culprits who had disappeared to their station after the robbery, detectives arrested four suspects namely; Cpl James LAMATA, & Wardens Brian KIPLANGAT, Dad SAID &Peter KIRUI. All placed in custody pending arraignment to answer to charges of Robbery with Violence contrary to section 296 (2) of the Penal Code," he tweeted.

The DCI has since warned officers against engaging in crime during the festive season. The suspects will be arraigned in court over the robbery.
