The modern Kenyan political landscape is rough for someone to serve active politics for over 20 years.
However, Vihiga Senator George Khaniri has never lost an election since he first joined politics in 1996.
The Vihiga Senator has never disappointed his late father Nicodemus Newton Khaniri since succeeding him as Hamisi MP.
Khaniri has served in various capacities in government. He at one time served as the Assistant Minister for Public Works and Housing, Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Assistant Minister for Tourism and Wildlife, Assistant Minister for Agriculture and Assistant Minister of Information & Communication.
He is currently serving his second term as Vihiga Senator under Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress (ANC) party.
Previously, he has been a member of Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, former United Democratic Forum Party (UDF) and the National Rainbow Coalition. He was, however, first elected on a Kanu ticket following the demise of his father in 1996.
He attended three primary schools from 1979 to 1986; Kapsoi Primary School, Kaimosi Junior and Primary School and Kapsotic Primary School.
Khaniri later joined Jersey State University, New Jersey from 1994 to 1996 where he studied Economics but had to transfer to the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) where he studied political science.
