The National Land Commission (NLC) is keeping over Sh1.14 billion meant to compensate individuals who were affected by the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
According to a report by Citizen TV, 330 people who were affected are yet to claim their compensation which sums up to Sh1.14 billion.
The acting Chief Executive Officer of NLC Kabale Tache stated on Monday that the commission was considering publishing the names of the affected people so that they cna go and claim their compensation.
"We want to put the names of that property which have been affected by The SGR corridor in the papers so that owners who may not be knowing that the properties have been affected they will contact the commission for payment," Kabale Tache told Citizen TV.
The commission is, however, waiting for a direction on the way forward from The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) after handing them their valuation documents.
"So we've given them the documents and we have written to them that in the interest of time and the interest of ... Because the persons who may not be able to recover what they have lost. So we work together using the documents that we have. So I am hopeful that what we have given the EACC is sufficient enough to give us a direction," Kabale Tache stated as quoted by Citizen TV.
