In covering the event, Mr Kinuthia struggled with the construction of the English language.

At some point, he could repeat himself making poorly constructed sentences.

Netizens came out to blast him over his poor coverage.

"I'm not a journalist, but from a layman's point of view, this is a very poor feed. Ur reporter doesn't have good command of English language, fumbled a lot. I couldn't quite make what he was trying to explain. With the likes of @LinusKaikai, @Fchurii, @YvonneOkwara @jageyo i think RMS can do beta," said Samson Owiti.

Many other netizens came out to blast Mr Kinuthia over his poor coverage.

However, journalists and other Kenyans came out to defend him.

Top Citizen TV journalist Yvonne Okwara was among those who defended Kinuthia.

"How many live links have you done? In a chaotic situation? Police and tear gas in the vicinity? A talkback in your ear with instructions being given as you talk? When you have no script? Victor was in a tough situation and did the best he could. I am proud of him!" said Okwara

Her sentiments were echoed by fellow journalist Francis Gachuri.

"I stand with Victor. For a full time, young Inooro TV correspondent to take up the challenge and try out an English live link on prime time TV is courage. He may have faltered but it was a valuable learning experience and opportunity. He will build on it," he said
