Former Kibra Member of Parliament (MP) Ken Okoth’s paternal uncle has warned of dire consequences if the fallen legislator will not be buried in Kochia, Homa Bay county as per Luo traditions.
“We won’t attend Ken Okoth’s funeral ceremony. The MP’s mum, Angeline Ajwang Ongere, should be ready to face the consequences of violating the Luo traditions,” his uncle, Chrispine Aseto Obonyo told K24 on Wednesday.
Obonyo, who is the brother to late Okoth’s dad says that Luo traditions dictate that a man is buried in his father’s ancestral land, which in this case is Kochia in Homa Bay county.
He warned that if that fails to happen, the person who made a decision to prevent a son from being buried in his father’s ancestral land must be prepared for unspecified consequences.
Okoth’s parents separated in the 80’s which led to him being taken care off by the mother. Her mother’s ancestral home is in Kabondo Kasipul.
She has since suggested that he would wish for his son to be buried in her ancestral home.
“I am of the opinion that he be buried at Kabondo Kasipul in Homa Bay County, where I wake up and see his grave every day,” she said.
ODM party leader Raila Odinga has since given an indication that the MP’s body may be cremated.
