DP William Ruto has given several tough conditions before, at times dismissing calls to have a referendum which has already been backed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

At Nyaisa Secondary on Friday, Wetangula accused selfishness, arguing that opposing the proposed referendum is a betrayal to communities in Kenya.

"I have heard him giving some conditions on referendum yet he hasn't read the questions. This act of selfishness should be punished in the ballot.

"The country needs an all inclusive government so that some small communities do not feel left out. He should oppose it at his own risk," said Wetangula.

The Ford Kenya leader urged Gusii community to support the referendum, adding that there is need to do away with imperial presidency.

His sentiments were echoed by Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), Wafula Wamunyinyi (Kanduyi) and Borabu MP Ben Momanyi who asked the country to support the referendum.

"Time has come for us to include small communities in leadership. This will allow us to have a government that is acceptable to all," Wamunyinyi said.
