Speaking on Wednesday, the controversial MP said that he wrote to President Uhuru Kenyatta to be allowed to establish a cell in his house where he was to lock himself up instead of being arrested.

"I was having frequent Friday arrests that I wrote to the president to be allowed to build a cell in my house so that I can lock myself in on Fridays. (Mimi nilikuwa nashikwa sana kila Friday hadi nikaandikia president niwachwe nijenge cell kwa nyumba yangu, ikifika Friday najifungua kule ndani)," Babu Owino said during an interview on Milele FM.

The MP's problems only came to an end after his trice with Uhuru, before which his criticisms of the president repeatedly landed him on the wrong side of the Jubilee administration.

Babu Owino also came to the defence of Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, with regards to his ongoing problems.

He expressed his support for the governor who is currently facing corruption charges, basing it on their long-term friendship.

The MP criticized the manner in which Sonko was arrested in Voi on Friday, accusing the police of harassing and humiliating a duly elected officer, contrary to what should be the case.

"I am not happy with the manner in which they arrested governor Sonko. I want to remind the police that they are a service and not a force, they should stop harassing people.  (Sikufurahia vile walimshika gavana Sonko. Nataka nikumbushe polisi they are a service not a force, waache kuharass watu)," he said.

Sonko has since been granted bail by the court after spending 5 nights behind bars.
