Kisumu Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Bishop John Godia has been questioned over mass transfer of priests in Maseno West Diocese.
A number of priests who have been transferred, on Thursday came out to question the move, reading some malice in the action.
They accused the bishop of witch-hunt, suggesting that he is out to hit back at those considered opposed to his leadership, claims the bishop came out to dismiss.
The priests questioned the process and criteria used to transfer them back to their home villages. However, the bishop said there is nothing preventing such transfers.
"When I transfer you to another parish and you interpret it that you have been sent to work in your village because of other reasons, it beats logic. Actually, the problem is not me but the people or priests who have decided to give this move wrong interpretation,” he said.
He insisted that the transfers were done after consultation with a team entrusted with such roles, adding that his was just a matter of implementing the body's suggestions.
“There is a team in the diocese that deals with transfer matters. I consult them and after they are through with their work, I implement. The entire role of transferring a priest of course is a preserve of the bishop,” he added.
The diocese has been marred with wrangles lately, with the new development coming only a day after a section of faithful demanded to break away from the diocese.
The group had petitioned the bishop seeking the formation of a new diocese dubbed Maseno Central, arguing that Maseno West has grown too big to effectively operate.
