Thirdway Alliance Kenya party leader Dr Ekuru Aukot’s push for constitutional review has hit a snag.
Punguza Mizigo Bill failed to pass in 24 counties as required by the Constitution. Machakos and Baringo counties joined the list of counties that have rejected the proposals after dismissing it on Wednesday.
Ealier in the day, Embu Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) opposed the proposals of the former Presidential candidate.
The Deputy Speaker, Steve Munene proposed the bill but Mwea MCA Harrison Mwaluko refused to second the same. Aukot is rooting for the reduction of the number of constituencies in the new system.
He also wants the presidential term reduced to a fixed seven-year term.
He has also proposed the scrapping of the Women Representative seat in a bid to reduce what he terms as a high wage bill.
Aukot has lamented that the bill is facing rejection because of bribery. He has alleged that some politicians have bribed the MCAs with the aim of shooting down the proposals.
“It is not being rejected by the general public but by a choreographed plan by a few selfish leaders in some political parties. We are getting reports from county assemblies that money is being dished out for them to shoot down the Bill,” said Mr Aukot during an interview on Tuesday night.
He has also been faulting ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto for his woes.
