The year 2018 is coming to an end and like anyone else; political leaders are taking stock of the year and planning for the New Year 2019.
Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o must be planning on how to improve service delivery to residents in 2019.
Here are the two things he should put into consideration in 2019:
1. Reduce travels abroad
Last month, former Kisumu County gubernatorial aspirant Dr Hezron Otieno Mc'Obewa labelled Governor Nyong’o as the ‘most airborne Luo’ for the number of trips he has made since he came into office in August last year.
“Remember we have two famous people in Luoland: Lupita for The Oscars, Raila for Democracy and now Professor takes the third spot - the most airborne Luo,” Dr Mc'Obewa posted on his Facebook page on November 26.
Numerous travels around the world automatically leave Nyong’o with little time to serve his people. He should drastically reduce his appetite for foreign trips not only to serve his people better but also to reduce his foreign travels budget.
2. Support calls for the referendum
ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has already indicated that the Country should hold a referendum in order to facilitate constitutional amendments.
Having been elected on the Orange Party’s ticket, Nyong’o should support his party leaders’ calls for a referendum. This will endear him to the masses, which will, in turn, give him an easy ride to his second term in 2022.
