The body of a 21-year-old man was found floating in River Thika in Mavoloni, Yatta sub-county on Thursday.

The incident was confirmed by Yatta sub-county Police Commander Joseph Karanja. 

When contacted, Karanja told Hivisasa e that the young man is a recruit at National Youth Service in Mavoloni. 

He said the deceased had been reported missing from the institution a few days ago. It is after a search for him by police that his body was found at the river.

"We received a report that one student from NYS Mavoloni aged 21 had gone missing some few days ago," said Karanja adding "sadly, after inquiry and search, his body was found in River Thika in Mavoloni."

He said that the details surrounding the incident are not clear. He noted that investigations into the incident have commenced.

 "We are not sure whether it's an accident or suicide but we will conduct investigations and get to the root of the matter," said Karanja. 

The body was picked by police and moved to Matuu funeral home for preservation.
