2 middle-aged men who are allegedly motorbike thieves were lynched beyond recognition by angry members of the public after they were busted with a stolen motorbike on Tuesday in Matiero village, Nyamache in Kisii County.
Witnesses said the suspects, John Oroo and Jared Manoti have been colluding with other criminals to rob people in the area.
"Manoti and Oroo dropped out of school and ventured into criminal activities. They have been warned several times to stop stealing from people but in vain. On Monday they were caught with a stolen motorbike and this led to their lynching,” said Peter Mogeni.
Area assistant chief, Fidelis Ombeta, confirmed the incident and said the suspect could not be rescued because the angry members were ready with petrol and tires which they used to lynch the suspect.
“I arrived at the scene late and found the two dead. Members of the public fled after the incident fearing arrest,” he said.
Ombeta warned members of the public against lynching crime suspects and urged them to surrender criminals to authorities.
He said lynching of thieves makes it difficult to arrest other thieves who are stealing secretly.
Ombeta called on youths to venture in constructive activities to avoid being in the wrong side of the law.
The administrator said the dead bodies were taken to Nyamache sub-county hospital mortuary.
