“For better for worse, in joy and in pain.”
These are marriage vows that Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi – wife to embattled Ugandan pop star Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has kept to the letter.
In the past few weeks, Barbie’s life has been tough, to say the least with her husband’s dramatic arrest, torture, and detention by Uganda’s government.
Wine who, besides music, is an MP for Kyadondo East constituency, was arrested on August 13 over alleged involvement in the stoning of President Yoweri Museveni’s vehicle by opposition supporters.
While her husband was held incommunicado at a military barrack, she spoke courageously and praised her husband’s resilience.
Besides the world fighting for his release, Barbie’s bravery awed many people.
Seemingly, her husband is cognizant of her selflessness in defending him and has returned the favour.
On Friday, the youthful Ugandan politician took to Twitter and posted a moving birthday message for his wife. Wine described Barbie as the “best human being he has ever met.”
"In good times & bad times, you've always been that source of hope & confidence, not just as a spouse but as the bestest friend. I am who I am because I've been loved by the best. Happy birthday to the most amazing human being I know - Barbie Kyagulanyi #ForBetterForWorse," read the tweet.
Celebrated Kenyan musician, Nameless was first to wish Barbie a happy birthday noting she is a blessing to Wine.
Bobi Wine's followers too praised Barbie for her selflessness and unconditional love for her husband. They described her as a woman of steel.
