Seven Homabay Members of County Assembly (MCAs) were arrested on Thursday evening and charged today before a Kisumu court.

The lawmakers are accused of attacking Homabay County Assembly speaker Elizabeth Ayoo last month.

Appearing before Kisumu Resident Magistrate Rose Ndombi, the MCAs denied being part of a group of lawmakers who attacked Ms Ayoo when chaos broke out at the assembly last month.

The Ward representatives also denied causing bodily harm to Ayoo last month.

The Magistrate, however, accepted the prosecution's prayer and granted them 14 days to carry out further investigations, against the seven leaders.

Among the detained MCAs is Homabay County Majority leader Walter Were Muok.

They will be detained at Kisumu’s Kodiaga Maximum Prison.

Other lawmakers who were detained include; Dan Were Ochieng’ (Kakelo Kokwanya ward), Evans Marieba Dada (Gwassi North ward), Peter Kaula (Wangchieng’ ward), Julius Odhiambo Gaya (Central Karachuonyo ward) Philemon Onyango Onditi (Kagan ward), and Paul Ongoro Wamunga (North Karachuonyo ward).
