Kenyans have been left disappointed after Harambee Stars lost 3-0 to Senegal in the last game of Group C for the ongoing African Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt.
The loss comes as a big blow to Kenyan football fans who had banked all their hopes on Harambee Stars emerging victorious after they beat Tanzania’s Taifa Stars.
The three goals during the Monday night game were scored by Ismaila Sarr in the 63rd minute and Sadio Mane in the 71st and 78th minutes respectively.
Senegal would have taken an early lead in the first half of the game through a penalty shot by Sadio Mane were it not for a perfect save by Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi.
Statistics of the game as displayed by Livescore did not favour Harambee Stars as Senegal dominated the game. The Teranga Lions had 67 per cent possession with 524 passes against Harambee Stars’ 33 per cent with 263. The shots on target by Senegal was 10 while Kenya had 2.
Harambee Stars, however, suffered a major blow in the 76th minute when Philemon Otieno was given a red card.
Kenya and Senegal are both in Group C together with Algeria and Tanzania.
After all group games were played, Algeria are topping with 9 points followed by Senegal with 6 points and Kenya with 3 points. Tanzania has not yet secured a victory.
