In the hotly contested race, Maendeleo Chap Chap candidate Musee Mati thrashed his competitors by garnering 2883 votes followed closely by Wiper candidate Stephen Kithuka with 2156 votes in all the fifty centres.

This is despite Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka leading the Wiper brigade for a two day trip to the area to campaign for the Wiper candidate Stephen Kithuka.

However, Machakos Governor Dr Afred Mutua didn't step in Kitui for the campaigns since he was abroad but had sent a team to campaign for their candidate.

Only Nine candidates were cleared by the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission to vie for the seat in the ward which has 16,145 registered voters and 50 polling stations.

The voting process started at 6 am and closed at 5 pm where only a few people came out to vote despite the area having conducive weather.

The seat was declared vacant by the court of appeal in June this year after the nullification of the election of Felix Mbevo of Narc after a petition.

However, Mbevo was locked out of the contest in the selection after he failed to submit his papers on time for clearance.
