Residents of a village in Naivasha are in shock after a 19-year-old girl committed suicide in unclear circumstances.
Naivasha Deputy County Commissioner Mbogo Mathioya who confirmed the incident, said the lifeless body of the teenage girl was found inside a water pan in the family's compound.
Mathioya said the teenager is suspected to have committed suicide by jumping inside the water pan where she drowned.
Mathioya said investigations into the incident have been launched adding that the police have collected the body from the scene and a postmortem will be done to establish the exact cause of death.
Divers from the area assisted the police in retrieving the body of the girl which was later taken to the Naivasha Sub County hospital mortuary.
“Family members found her pair of slippers near the pan and suspected she might have jumped inside the water and drowned,” said Mathioya as quoted by nation.co.ke.
Some of the villagers urged the police to investigate the matter alleging their might be a foul play in the death of the girl.
A villager had revealed that the teenage girl was due to join a vocational training centre in Naivasha.
