Speaking during a wide-ranging panel discussion on NTV, Khalwale hit out at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the investigative body's failure to tell Kenyans the status of the investigations into the matter.

"That Tuju can have an intimate, long conversation on the phone with George Nyanja about what they said in that audio that was reported and the DCI, since he likes telling the what he's doing through the newspapers, he has not told us what action he has taken against it, " the former legislator said

In the phone recording that the former Ikolomani Member of Parliament was referring, individuals said to be Raphael Tuju and a fromer Kiambu MP George Nyanja are heard discussing the Kiambaa fire tragedy and how the Deputy President Dr William Ruto should help in the rebuilding of the Kiambaa church.

Ruto-backing politicians have since called for an inquest into the audio recording to determine its authenticity and for the Jubilee Party secretary general to be removed from the party should the audio be found to be genuine.

On his part, Tuju has strongly rubbished the recording.
