Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei now says there is no need for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report to go for a referendum.
He says most of the issues can be implemented through the parliamentary process.
“As the chair of the legal committee in the Senate, I don’t see any need to take Kenyans into a referendum since over 80 percent of the document can be done through the parliamentary process,” he stated.
Cherargei who spoke to the press in Eldoret town on Wednesday said Kenyans are suffering due to the high cost of living and subjecting them to the referendum will be adding another burden on them.
“Sh 20 billion for the referendum is a lot of money yet Kenyans are suffering due to increased wage bill. Let the money be used to improve the livelihoods of Kenyans," added the Nandi Senator.
He, however, called on the government to produce many copies and distribute it across the country so that every Kenyan at the grassroots can read and understand the document.
Cherargei said this will prevent them from being cheated and mislead by politicians who want their interest to represented.
