With the Presidency being the most sought after and dreamt of political seat in the nation, ascending to it has since grown to one of the hardest political tasks one can accomplish.

Judging by its nature, getting to the Head of State position has been left for top politicians enjoying massive support in the nation and who can foot the millions or billions needed for campaigns and other expenses.

But with the apparently looming retirement of opposition leader Raila Odinga, the Luo Nyanza region seems slightly distant to the post which it has admired since several years after independence, via former Vice President the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

But the region can now depend on Siaya Senator James Orengo whose political star is on the rise, and who seems best placed to succeed Raila as the Luo political chief.

Orengo has beaten the threshold needed in a presidential candidate and is more acceptable in most parts of the nation as compared to most other candidates.

Compared to Deputy President William Ruto, Orengo still stands out, as he remains clean, as opposed to the DP who was ranked the most corrupt Kenyan in an Ipsos Synovate poll released last Wednesday.

Coming at a time when Kenyans have grown tired of the corruption headache, which has troubled the nation for a long time, they are more likely to choose Orengo over Ruto.

The Senior Counsel is also well educated and successful in his legal profession, meaning that he will use his knowledge, making it easy for him to convince Kenyans that he will steer the nation to prosperity.

Should he get the go-ahead to contest, Orengo will easily inherit the regions of the nation’s currently allied to Raila, as opposed to Ruto who is still trying to make inroads into regions like the Coast and Western Kenya.

He is also not known to be verbally offensive, unlike Ruto who has repeatedly been heard attacking the opposing side and referring to Raila as ‘Mtu wa Vitendawili’ (the man of parables).

This, to many, is an insult, especially coming from a younger person whose success can largely be attributed to the former Premier.

Therefore, Orengo’s presidency is valid and he can lead the nation whether he vies in the approaching race or in the future.
