Detectives arrested Major Peter Mugure on Friday in an ongoing investigation of the disappearance of his wife, Joyce Syombua and two children 20 days ago.
The head of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nanyuki Jacob Mureithi while confirming the arrest revealed that the officer had domestic problems with his wife.
“He (Mugure) was not on good terms with her (Syombua) for some time,” he said.
During a previous interrogation by the DCI, Mugure admitted to receiving his wife and children from the bus terminus after which they proceeded to the military base where they allegedly spent the night until the next day at around 3:00 pm.
Details of the whereabouts of the family members after they had a meal at Kirimara Springs Hotel the next day remain unknown.
Syombua went missing together with her two children, Shanice Maua and Prince Michael, after visiting the officer at the airbase in Nanyuki on October 25. At one point a DNA test was carried out to determine the paternity of their two children. A court directed Mugure to pay maintenance costs for the children after the results proved that he was their biological father.Detectives requested for Syombua's call log details in an effort to track her last communication.
