This, according to the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri is aimed at addressing the water shortage that has been leading to food insecurity.

Speaking during a tour in eight target counties over the weekend, Kiunjuri said that the resolution came after the mega dams projects across the country were derailed due to politicizing the projects following corruption allegations.

The CS said that they are targeting to construct 4,000 dams in Samburu, Baringo, Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Nakuru, Laikipia, Isiolo and Machakos counties.

“The construction of small dams will reduce the cost and increase the irrigation activities in the drought-prone areas to help address the food insecurity in the country,” said Kiunjuri.

Several mega dams projects among them the Kimwarer and Arror dams in Elgeyo Marawet and  Itare Dam in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County have been hit by graft allegations.
