Egerton University located in Njoro, Nakuru County, is set to receive an ultramodern library with a capacity of 8,000 students.
The construction of the library will serve the growing population of the students been admitted to the university. The student enrollment increased from 19,000 in 2016 to 25,000.
The new library is also set to ease the congestion in the current main library.
The project was on Friday assessed by the University Chancellor Narendra Raval, the university council as well as the management board.
The ultramodern library will add to the list of the modern buildings at the campus, including the education complex, chemistry complex, physics complex and several hostels.
The public university was founded in 1939 and was known as the Egerton Farm School then as it was established on a large land grant of 740 acres by Maurice Egerton of Tatton.
It was changed to Egerton Agricultural College in 1955 and later recognised as a chartered public university in 1987.
Egerton University received a new chancellor, Narendra Raval, who is the owner of Devki Steel Mills Limited, National Cement Company Limited (Simba Cement) and Maisha Mabati Mills Ltd following his appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta in March, this year.
Mr Raval replaced Prof Shem Wandiga who was also appointed by President Uhuru in 2013.
