The President accompanied by ODM party leader Raila Odinga is expected to tour Migori County on Friday.

He is expected to meet his Tanzanian Counterpart John Magufuli at the border, to try and sort out some of the issues concerning residents of both countries.

But what do leaders in Nyanza expect from the President’s tour? Former Kisumu County women representative, now ODM nominated Senator Rose Nyamunga says the Head of State’s planned visit should be used to promote unity and cohesion.

“We are expecting the visit to have a significant impact in the region as the country continues to recover from last year’s elections,” Ms Nyamunga was quoted by the Standard.

Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga expects the President to address the issue of Kenyan fishermen being harassed in Lake Victoria by Tanzanian and Ugandan security officers.

“Several fishermen in Homa Bay and Migori counties have suffered frequent arrests by Ugandan officials. We expect the president to address this issue,” she said as quoted by the Standard.

They also want the president to spearhead the revival of stalled factories such as the Fishnet and Kisumu Cotton mills, besides breathing a sigh of relief in the financially troubled Chemelil, Muhoroni and Sony Sugar Companies.

President Kenyatta last visited Nyanza in July last year.
