Tension has gripped staff at the Port of Mombasa after the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti arrived at the facility unannounced on Monday.
Reports indicate that he is leading a team of sleuths in investigating corruption-related cases at the facility. This has left staff in fear.
Kinoti joined another team of investigators that had arrived at the port before the ongoing probe into the loss of millions through tax evasion and other forms of graft.
The other detectives have been camping at the port in an attempt to end the vice at the place for smooth operations. Local police officers have been locked out of the investigations after the arrival of the detectives from Nairobi.
It has emerged that most officials are not aware of what is going on at the port as investigations gain momentum.
The release of cooking oil amounting to Sh10 billion and theft of petroleum at the Kilindini Oil Terminal are among the incidents the detectives have been probing at the port.
Kinoti has confirmed his arrival saying "It is massive and extensive investigation." He, however, did not elaborate further.
